Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility

Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility

Vigilance means being alert, watchful, and careful about what is happening around us. It helps us to protect ourselves and our society from wrong actions such as corruption, cheating, or misuse of power. Being vigilant also means being responsible and aware citizens.

Vigilance is not only the duty of the government or the police. It is the duty of every person. Each one of us must play our part to make our country honest, safe, and corruption-free. If every citizen becomes alert and responsible, many problems in our society can be solved easily.

At home, we can be vigilant by taking care of our belongings and being honest in our work. In school, we can be vigilant by following rules, reporting unfair activities, and helping others do the right thing. In society, we can be alert against wrong practices, report corruption, and respect public property.

The government observes Vigilance Awareness Week every year to remind people about the importance of honesty and integrity. This week encourages everyone to take a pledge to fight against corruption and to act with fairness in all situations.

As responsible citizens, we should also know about important helpline numbers that help us act quickly and report wrongdoings. Some useful numbers are:

  • 112 – All-in-one Emergency Helpline (Police, Fire, Ambulance)

  • 1098 – Child Helpline (for children in need of care or protection)

  • 1091 – Women Helpline (for women’s safety)

  • 1064 – Anti-Corruption Helpline (to report corruption cases)

In short, vigilance is a shared responsibility. It starts with each one of us. By being alert, truthful, and responsible, we can make our country a better place to live in. Let us all promise to stay vigilant and do our duty sincerely.
