Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility

Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility

Good morning everyone,
Respected teachers and my dear friends,

Today, I am going to speak on the topic “Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility.”

The word vigilance means being alert, careful, and aware of what is happening around us. It is like keeping our eyes open to protect ourselves, our family, and our country from wrongdoing, corruption, or danger.

Vigilance is not only the duty of the police or government officers. It is the duty of every citizen — including students like us! When each of us becomes alert and honest, our society becomes stronger and safer.

For example, if we see someone trying to cheat, waste public money, or harm the environment, we should not stay silent. We should inform elders or the right authorities. In school, if we see someone breaking rules or bullying others, we should speak up — that is also vigilance.

Being vigilant also means being responsible for our own actions — like not littering, saving electricity, obeying traffic rules, and using social media wisely.

If we ever see something wrong or unsafe, we can also take help by contacting important helplines in India:

  • Police Helpline: 112 (Emergency number for police, fire, or ambulance)

  • Child Helpline: 1098 (For children in distress or danger)

  • Women Helpline: 1091 (For women’s safety and assistance)

  • Anti-Corruption Helpline: 1064 (To report corruption cases)

Our small steps can make a big difference. As the saying goes, “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.”
So, let us all take a pledge to be alert, honest, and responsible citizens.
Together, we can build a corruption-free and safe India.

Thank you.
