FOR the Motion: Vande Mataram is a National Duty
Honourable judges, respected teachers and my dear friends,
Today, I stand before you with pride to say that chanting Vande Mataram is not just a slogan — it is our national duty.
"Vande Mataram" is not ordinary poetry.
It is the sound of freedom, the spirit of sacrifice, and the heartbeat of India’s struggle. When Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote these golden words, they lit a fire in the hearts of heroes like Bhagat Singh, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Lala Lajpat Rai. These words gave courage when weapons were few and hope when times were dark.
And remember — Vande Mataram does not belong to any religion.
It belongs to every Indian heart.
It simply means “I salute my Motherland.”
If saluting our flag is our duty, if standing for the national anthem is our honour, then saying Vande Mataram is our love and loyalty in words.
Friends, we say “Good Morning” every day without thinking.
So why hesitate to say Vande Mataram — the greeting of patriotism, the salute of courage, the voice of India?
When we chant Vande Mataram, we don’t just speak — we unite.
We don’t just repeat words — we remember our martyrs.
We don’t just raise our voice — we raise our nation.
So yes, proudly and firmly,
Vande Mataram is a national duty —
a duty of our hearts, our spirit, and our identity.
Let us say it with pride, with love, and with full respect to our Mother India:
VANDE MATARAM!
